Dr. Ashwin Patkar Appointed to NC Governor’s Task Force for Mental Health and Substance Abuse

Dr. Ashwin Patkar, the Northern Piedmont Community Care (NPCC) physician champion for Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, has been appointed to the recently formed North Carolina Mental Health and Substance Use Task Force.

The Task Force is a panel that will bring together the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of government and key stakeholders to make recommendations that will improve the lives of citizens with mental illness and substance use disorders.

The task force will submit findings and strategic recommendations to Governor Pat McCrory by May 1, 2016 for improving the lives of North Carolina youth and adults with mental illness and substance use disorders and their families. 

Dr. Ashwin Patkar is the Medical Director of the Duke Addictions Program and Substance Abuse Consultation Services.
