Shortcut for Point-of-Sale Override for Certain Drugs Requiring Prior Approval

Point-of-Sale Override for Certain Drugs Requiring Prior Approval. The pharmacist can override the Prior Authorization (PA) edit if a prescriber puts “Meets PA Criteria” in the comment block on e-prescriptions (or handwritten on the face of the prescription) – this negates the requirement for filling out a prior auth form. This only works for leukotriene inhibitors, orally inhaled steroids for asthma (COPD is exempt), and second-generation anticonvulsants (for seizure disorders only). In addition, documentation in the patient record of the PA criteria met should be present if Medicaid does an audit.
